Una Pelicula Barata
Fede is depressed, withdrawn, and done with social life, drifting through a Spanish summer with nothing to hold onto. A chance meeting in a park reconnects him with Iván, an acquaintance from childhood who turns out to be just as unhappy, and Iván insists that two lost souls are better off keeping each other company. What follows is an unpredictable season in which the pair try, clumsily and sincerely, to help each other find a way forward. Osama Chami's feature debut, starring Enrique Gimeno and Jorge Motos with Jorge Suquet and Bárbara Santa-Cruz, is a low-budget dramedy that wears its title with pride, drawing inspiration from 1990s romantic comedies and the freewheeling spirit of Pedro Almodóvar. The film screened at Frameline48 in San Francisco, where its inventive, handmade charm marked Chami as a filmmaker to watch.
