Tru Loved

Sixteen-year-old Tru has grown up in San Francisco with two mothers and two fathers, and she has never had to explain her family to anyone. That changes when a move to a conservative Southern California suburb drops her into a high school where difference is a liability. She finds an unlikely ally in Lodell, the star football player, who needs a girlfriend to cover for the fact that he is gay, and the two strike a bargain that works until Tru decides to start the school's first Gay-Straight Alliance. Written and directed by Stewart Wade, this warm-hearted comedy stars Najarra Townsend as Tru and Jake Abel as Trevor, the openly supportive classmate who complicates her life, with Alexandra Paul, Jane Lynch, Jasmine Guy, Bruce Vilanch, and Nichelle Nichols in a colorful supporting cast. The film premiered at the Sedona Film Festival, screened at Frameline, and collected fourteen awards on the festival circuit.
