Toska
Flavio lives alone with his regrets, and the one ritual that still structures his days is the cigarette he smokes in solitude. Each drag carries him back to Alberto, the man he loved, and to the moments they shared: warm embraces, laughter, and the tears that came later. As memory and the present blur, the short builds an intimate portrait of a man unable to let go. Written and directed by Tommaso Barba, the thirteen-minute Italian film stars Giacomo Galeone as Flavio and Antonio Greco as Alberto. Its title borrows the Russian word for a deep, aching spiritual longing, and the film earns it, using the smoke and silence of Flavio's apartment to evoke a grief that has nowhere to go. Melancholy and tender, Toska is a study of how love lingers in the body long after the person has gone.
