The Uninhabitable Ones
A contemporary dance company in Brazil is preparing to premiere Inabitáveis, The Uninhabitable Ones, a new work confronting black homosexuality and the bodies society refuses to make room for. As the choreographer researches the piece and rehearsals intensify, he befriends Pedro, a black child who does not identify as a boy and is searching for a language of self-expression that the world has not yet offered. Anderson Bardot's 25-minute short moves between studio and street, letting the discipline and physicality of the dancers echo the more private struggle of a young person finding form for who they are. Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro plays Pedro, with Markus Konká, Lucciano Coelho, Mauro Marques and Gil Mendes. The film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2020 and screens in the anthology The Gay Agenda 36.
