The Gatecrasher

A small group of young friends gathers for a late-night party, the kind of evening meant for music, drinks and the easy intimacy of people who know one another well. When a mysterious transgender stranger joins them, the mood shifts, and the night begins to unravel as prejudices, suspicions and hidden tensions among the guests rise to the surface. Iranian director Siamak Kashefazar stages this fifteen-minute drama in Persian almost as a chamber piece, with Kimia Khalaj, Alireza Mirzamohammadali and Odin Roshan among the ensemble, and the confined setting sharpens every glance and remark. The Gatecrasher is a rare Iranian short to place a transgender character at its center, and it uses a single disastrous party to expose how quickly a welcome can curdle.
