The Call
A phone rings, and a transgender woman hears her brother's voice for the first time in a long while. Their mother has died, he tells her, and the family wants her home for the funeral, on one condition: she must come as the person they remember, not as the woman she has become. Cypriot director Marios Psaras builds this short drama around that impossible request, with Nektarios Theodorou at the center of a story that unfolds in the space between grief and self-respect. Spare and emotionally direct, The Call asks what a person owes to family, what family owes in return, and whether honoring a mother can be reconciled with erasing oneself.
