South of Bix
Molly (Justine Lupe) has not spoken to her grandfather in years, and she has her reasons. Now he is dying on the rural pig farm where she spent her childhood, and family obligation pulls her back for a goodbye she is not sure she wants to give. What she finds is a proud, difficult old man (M. Emmet Walsh) whose bigoted views have not softened with age, and a reckoning with the question of what, if anything, is owed to someone who has hurt you. Lupe, known to television audiences from Succession and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, co-wrote and co-directed this fourteen-minute short with her lifelong friend Briana Pozner, drawing on the political divisions running through so many American families. Juliana Canfield and Laura Innes co-star. South of Bix screened at the Palm Springs International ShortFest and Aspen Shortsfest and is presented on Here TV as part of Queer Quickies 202.
