Sober Love

In a near-future Uruguay, a war over water has left the population with little to drink but alcohol, and society has adjusted accordingly: almost everyone is intoxicated almost all the time, and people save their rare moments of sobriety for occasions worth remembering clearly. Luna wants to go to a party, and her friend manages to find her some water so that, for one night, she can experience it with a clear head. What she sees and feels in that unfamiliar state is the heart of this sly, inventive short. Director Guillermo Trochon, whose original title is Amores Sobrios, uses a satirical premise to ask what we notice about desire and connection when the haze lifts. Camila Vives leads a cast that includes Fiorella Bottaioli, Sabrina Yanque, Juan Santandreu, and Hugo Piccinini in a twenty-minute Spanish-language comedy with a romantic heart.
