Scarlett Smoke

Scarlett Smoke is a drag queen with an unusual side business: the people of her city come to her to confess, convinced she is the only one who can absolve them. One by one they arrive, sharing sins large and small, and Scarlett listens with the mix of glamour, patience and sharp judgment that only a queen can deliver. Directed by Alex Pop and starring Jonathan Becotte, Maha El Assaad and Robert Verret, this Canadian short runs about nine minutes and treats the confessional as a stage, turning a ritual of guilt into an exercise in wit. Playfully irreverent, it pokes at the borrowed solemnity of the sacrament while celebrating the drag queen as a figure of both spectacle and unexpected grace, a confessor who grants forgiveness with a raised eyebrow.
