Red Yellow Pink
Maciej is a young gay man; his mother is a devout Roman Catholic. Between them lies a gulf of belief and expectation that neither knows how to cross, and as Maciej builds a life of his own, the quiet strain at home hardens into open conflict. Directed by Jolanta Warpechowski and starring David Paul as Maciej, Agnieszka Salamon as his mother, and Wojciech Galzinski as his father, this Polish-language drama, filmed in Poland and Austria, asks whether love within a family can outlast the prejudices that divide it. Conceived explicitly as a film against discrimination and for acceptance, it sits within a wave of recent European cinema confronting the position of LGBTQ+ people in deeply religious societies, and it does so through the intimate scale of one household and one mother and son.
