One Night in Jaffa

Layla has built a private world in which she is seen and accepted as the woman she is. When she steps into the streets and clubs of Jaffa after dark, that fantasy collides with the city's rough nightlife, and every encounter tests how much of her inner life can survive contact with reality. Directed by Raz Bar David Varon and starring Tzachi Zeev Look, Ori Levanon and Miriam Cohen, this Israeli short runs about twenty-four minutes and unfolds over a single night in the ancient port city on Tel Aviv's southern edge. Blending drama with a thread of romance, it follows Layla through a landscape that is by turns alluring and hostile, capturing the fragile courage of a transgender woman insisting on her own identity in a place that would rather not see it.
