Nina

In a decaying nightclub, a young woman named Nina turns down her boyfriend's demand that she dance with him. The refusal ignites an argument that spills into a cramped red room at the back of the club, where the pushing and shouting escalate. Nina calls out for help, and the people around her respond with indifference, amusement and eye-rolling contempt, turning her night into a bitter parody of a society that refuses to take a woman's distress seriously. Directed by Jose Carlos Garcia and starring Javiera Arnillas, Vania Accinelli, Johan Escalante and Miguel Blasica, this Peruvian short uses the confined setting and lurid color of the club to build a mounting sense of unease. It is a pointed, unsettling drama about the violence that happens in plain sight and the crowd that chooses to look away.
