Marie

After fifteen years away, Marie comes home to the Brazilian countryside for the hardest of reasons: her father has died. Waiting for her is Estêvão, the childhood friend who knew her before she left, and who now agrees to accompany her on the road to Crato, her father's hometown, where he is to be buried. Leo Tabosa's twenty-four-minute drama unfolds along that journey, as the old intimacy between Marie and Estêvão resurfaces and the trans woman who returns must reconcile the person she has become with the place that shaped her. Wallie Ruy plays Marie, with Rômulo Braga as Estêvão and Divina Valéria and Arlindo Lima in supporting roles. It is a spare, tender road movie about grief, belonging and the friends who hold the past for us.
