Liquid Love
K is an unusual girl with a firm theory: the right pheromones can rewrite how people feel about each other. Convinced that chemistry is literally chemical, she brews her own perfume in the hope of drawing her crush, Sean, closer. The scent seems to work, and the two do begin to grow close, but as the distance between them shrinks K discovers an obstacle that no fragrance can dissolve. Vivian Chuang's Taiwanese short, played by K-Chiu Se Chin and Sean-Yang Young Wei, pairs a whimsical, science-fair premise with a quietly aching story about the limits of wanting someone. Its images of glass bottles, botanicals and homemade experiments give the romance a tactile, slightly surreal texture, and its central question, whether love can be manufactured or only met, lingers well past the film's brief running time.
