Inside the Rainbow

Inside the Rainbow is a short-form documentary series from filmmaker Tay Barrett that sets out to do something simple and generous: celebrate queer people who are living openly and doing good in their communities through art, service and sheer force of personality. Each brief episode introduces a different subject, among them a queer astrologer, the bear rapper Big Dipper and Mark Taylor, who curates a collection of vintage gay erotica at the NYU library, along with figures such as Pandemonia, Jessica O'Dowd and Scott Young. Barrett, who has spoken about wanting to counter the negative narratives she grew up with, gives her subjects room to explain what they make, why it matters and how pride became a daily practice. Warm, quick and affirming, the 2018 series is a snapshot of queer creativity and community, told by the people living it.
