After Ifigenia dies, her body is no longer her own. What was hers in life becomes something to be handled, claimed and interpreted by others, and the film watches that transfer of ownership with unsettling calm. In just seven minutes, director Aliki Tsakoumi reframes the ancient Greek name of a sacrificed daughter as a contemporary story about a woman whose identity is contested even in death, and about who gets to decide what she was. Nicole Hazelnut and Dimitris Lolis lead the cast of this Greek short, Tsakoumi's debut as a director after working as an assistant on international productions. Ifigenia screened at the New York City Greek Film Festival, where its stark imagery and quiet outrage marked its maker as a filmmaker to watch.
