I Can't Think Straight

Tala, the spirited daughter of a wealthy Christian Palestinian family in Jordan, is weeks away from her lavish wedding when a trip to London introduces her to Leyla, a shy British Indian Muslim woman with a writer's heart and a quiet life of her own. The attraction between them is immediate, disguised at first as a fast friendship, and as it deepens, Tala finds herself unwilling to accept where her heart is leading while Leyla begins to imagine a life lived openly. Shamim Sarif directs from her own novel, moving between the drawing rooms of Amman's high society and London's West End as two women weigh love against the expectations of family, faith, and culture. Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth, who also starred together in Sarif's The World Unseen, play Tala and Leyla, and the film became a favorite on the LGBTQ+ festival circuit, including Frameline in San Francisco.
