I Am Not Afraid
Misha is a quiet Russian high schooler who hides his sensitivity behind a cool reserve, and Philip is the confident best friend he has known since childhood. In private, their closeness has begun to shade into something neither of them names. Then Philip's parents announce a move to another city, and the countdown to his departure sends their friendship into a tailspin: Philip can sense Misha's distress but cannot draw out the truth, and what once felt like innocent play becomes a tangle of new, unfamiliar feelings. Written and directed by Vladimir Beck and starring Illarion Marov as Misha and Mark Eidelshtein as Philip, this Russian short is a rare and candid portrait of queer adolescence in a country where such stories are seldom told, building toward a moment in which Misha must decide how much of himself he is willing to show.
