Hush Up Sweet Charlotte

Deep in the South, an aging recluse named Charlotte rattles around the family plantation with a dreadful secret and a fraying grip on reality. When a cousin arrives claiming to want to help preserve the crumbling estate, and a gossipy housekeeper watches every move, Charlotte begins to suspect that the people around her have designs of their own. Billy Clift's affectionate drag parody of the 1964 Bette Davis thriller Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte reunites the director with Matthew Martin, who plays the title role, after their earlier send-up Baby Jane?. Varla Jean Merman is the smiling cousin, Mink Stole plays the housekeeper Velma, and David Millbern and Jason Stuart appear alongside cameos from RuPaul's Drag Race alumni Honey Mahogany and Raja. Camp, gothic and full of quotable menace, the film premiered on the LGBTQ festival circuit in 2015, including Palm Springs, Chicago and Seattle, and a red-carpet night at San Francisco's Castro Theatre.
