A group of aspiring gay models put everything on the line for a shot at Vancouver's Next Gay Top Model, a local competition that promises a foothold in an industry that can be as unforgiving as it is glamorous. This documentary-style reality series follows the contestants through castings, photo shoots and eliminations, but its real subject is what happens between rounds: the friendships and rivalries, the relationships strained by ambition, and the private lives the men bring with them into the spotlight. Directed by Mellanie Siteman and featuring Rob Trinh, the series first aired in 2008 on Canada's OUTtv before reaching American audiences through Here TV. Over nine episodes it traces hard work, heartbreak and the moments of doubt that come with chasing a dream, offering an intimate look at a scene built on image while paying attention to the people beneath it.
