Give a Kiss

On a student film set in Mexico, Diego and Luis have one scene left to shoot: the kiss. Both straight, both inexperienced, both suddenly unable to do the simplest thing on the call sheet. As takes pile up, the two are forced to examine why they took the roles at all — and to confront the homophobic behavior in their own pasts that this kiss keeps dragging into the light. Carlos Lowmet's Mexican short comedy-drama turns a film-school exercise into a disarming story of redemption: awkward, funny, and quietly pointed, ending on a decision that belongs to the crew as much as the cast. Sometimes the retake is the whole point.
