Carol Support Group

A circle of women gathers for a twelve-step meeting devoted to a very specific addiction: Todd Haynes's 2015 romance Carol, and the Cate Blanchett performance at its center. Recovery does not go well. When superfan Blanche (Ashley Morton) starts channeling Carol Aird herself, the session slides from confession into mutiny, dragging the other members and their exasperated therapist into temptation. Writer-director Allison Tate, an admitted Carol devotee, packs this eight-minute Here TV comedy with quotations, glances and gestures that any fan will recognize instantly, and Julia Farino, Brett Candace, Phyllis M. Nofts and Gillian Cameron round out the group. A festival favorite when it debuted in 2017, it is a loving send-up of lesbian film fandom and of the way a single movie can take over a life.
