A Story of Wedding

Huanlin is a gay man and Ziqiao is a lesbian, and both are running out of ways to deflect their families' questions about marriage. Their solution is pragmatic: a marriage of convenience, sealed in a ceremony conducted online, followed by an agreement to raise a child together. On paper it settles everything. In practice, the arrangement begins reshaping their lives long before either of them notices, as the roles they agreed to play start bleeding into the people they actually are. Director Wei Zhao's Chinese-language short, known in French as Histoire de Noces, approaches a familiar dilemma among queer people in traditional families with patience and quiet observation, letting small domestic moments carry the weight. Jojo Wang and Ming Zhu lead the cast in an intimate drama about the distance between the family you perform and the life you want.
